While your Bluestone Sunshield provides UPF 50+ protection and blocks 99% of UV rays, we still recommend wearing sunscreen on exposed areas of skin for full coverage. The shield is an excellent physical barrier, pairing with sunscreen ensures you're protected from reflected and indirect UV rays as well.

All Bluestone Sunshields provide UPF 50+ protection and block 99.95% of UVB rays. However, the addition of tint and color finishes enhances UVA protection, offering an extra layer of defense against sun exposure.

If you're looking for the highest level of sun protection, we recommend choosing any of our coloured shields, followed by the black, and then the clear.

Testing And Certifications

Bluestone Sunshields voluntarily works with a 3rd party lab to test their products, as well we showcase many of their in-house testing on their social media.

Bluestone Sunshields are tested according to the American National Standards Institute. This is a voluntary set of technical regulations that we adhere to ensure our products meet the standards in safety and protection. These tests are complete by a 3rd party lab as well as we frequently do in-house testing to demonstrate how our products work.

Below is the set of testing conducted under the ANSI Z80 standards, ensuring bluestone sunshields meet the required light transmission and visibility standards for non-prescription sunglasses. Click here to view the results.

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. A rating of UPF 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, allowing less than 2% to pass through. In other words, it provides excellent protection against both UVA and UVB rays—helping to shield your skin from sunburn, premature aging, and long-term sun damage.

Bluestone Sunshields have filters that also block blue light, and can help reduce exposure to blue light waves that can keep you awake and cause other damage.

Care

To clean your Bluestone Sunshield, follow these steps to maintain its appearance and functionality:

1. Cleaning the Lens:

Use the Bluestone 3-Piece Cleaning Kit, which includes a spray cleaner and microfiber cloth. Spray the cleaner onto the lens and gently wipe it clean with the cloth.
If you don't have the kit, you can use a standard lens cleaner and a soft cloth. Always test on a small area first to ensure compatibility.

2. Cleaning the Headband:

The headband is made of water-resistant material. Clean it with soap and water, then allow it to air dry.
For added hygiene, you can disinfect the headband with your preferred disinfectant and let it dry completely.

The headband is designed to naturally mold to your head with regular wear. If you'd like to speed up the adjustment process, gently warm the headband with a hairdryer and reshape it to your desired fit—either larger or smaller. Allow it to cool in place before wearing.
